Tonight was the annual awards ceremony and banquet for our local Chamber of Commerce (of which we are a part), and they had asked me if we could shoot some photographs of people coming to the event. The night also included a silent auction, and even though there is usually never anything at these auctions that interests me, there was a very old sign from a local clothing company. I would estimate that it was from the 20’s at the latest…it was very weathered and beaten up, and it was one of the coolest signs I have ever seen. Unfortunately, the one person who was bidding against me had deeper pockets than I do. But, she assured me that it was going to a nice home and was going to be treasured. That made it a little better.
After we shot the photos, we popped over to Wal-mart, which had agreed to print the photos of the people right away so we could hand them out before the night was over. By the time we returned, the entertainment for the evening was on the stage. It was a guy with big black hair, a deep voice, and to top it all off, a blue jump suit with sequins and a cape. Yes…Elvis was there. Well, not the real Elvis, of course, but an Elvis impersonator Elvis tribute artist by the name of Bill Cherry (website here). Now, I am not a big fan of Elvis after the early, Sun Records type stuff, but I have to admit…watching Bill perform was a little too good…it was a kind of unnerving to see someone act that much like Elvis. I have never seen someone perform Elvis stuff before, so I am totally new to it. But, I can see why he has won awards for his work.
Anyway, after that…we shot some more photos of people, and this time they were with the pseudo-King. We did not have a way to print them again so they could take them, so we decided to post them here so everyone could see and download their photo. They are nothing amazing…just super quick snapshots. But, the people in the photos should enjoy them for what they are.
