I love weddings at home. Absolutely love them. There is a level of love, intimacy, comfort, and honesty in weddings at home that you just do not usually see. When I was first chatting with Danie and I found out that their wedding was going to be at their house and that she really wanted to focus on their family, kids, and friends, I knew that I had to be there. It was a perfect Friday evening in September (with a bit of rain in the afternoon just to keep things interesting), and you could not have asked for more with an outdoor wedding. They live in Collinsville, which is our home town, and in fact…they literally live just down the street from us. Because Shannon is pregnant and we had a wedding the next day, she did not photograph this one with me, but it was so close to our house that she and Edmund walked down during the reception to see us (our friend and former bride Kami Weber shot the wedding with me, and she is amazing).
The night turned out exactly how I imagined it. So lovely…so sweet. The two kids were as wonderful as could be, and so were so involved in every part of the event. I had a lot of favorite moments with the four of them, but I think my favorite was how they bought a special tree that they were going to plant because of the new family coming together. They each poured jars of dirt on the tree, and it was extremely touching to me especially because I have such a love for trees (I planted a wedding tree at our house after Shannon and I were married as well). Adam was fighting back emotion the entire time, and they both had incredibly beautiful vows they wrote for each other. The reception was very relaxed and so much fun for everyone on the perfectly mild evening, and it was topped off with some fireworks right there in the back yard. For dessert, they had the dessert food truck Destination Dessert there, and it was a huge hit. (they are a great non-profit food truck that raises money for the Center for Head Injury Services, so check them out!)
We were so happy to be a very small part of this family’s next step together, and we are thrilled that these photos will be an important part of their family legacy. A huge shout out and thanks to Sabrina of Proposing Dreams. She is an amazing planner, and her skills were on full display at this wedding. Literally, she made the day go off without a hitch, and so much of the beauty was because of her. Our job that night was as easy as could be, and she worked relentlessly to make sure it was a perfect night…and it was. I cannot give her enough credit for how great this wedding was. And, special thanks to Kami for shooting with me and getting some killer images.
