We just returned home late last night from our trip to Chilliwack, British Columbia in the great country of Canada. What a wonderful trip! The area is very near Vancouver, and is it just one of the most gorgeous of places I have ever been. This is our third time having the honor of photographing a wedding up there, and seriously, it is like my home away from home. I have some amazing friends up there, and each time we get to go, it just gets better and better. We first got connected about 10 years ago when I was on staff at my church. I met a few of the people from there at a conference in New Orleans, and we all made instant connections. I have visited several times over the years. It was Shannon’s first chance to go, so that made it all the more special.
Brittany and Geoff (both of whom I have known for a few years now) asked us if we would be able to do their wedding, and thankfully, we were able to work it into our schedule. Honestly, we probably would have done anything possible to make it work. They were a great couple, and we knew it would be an amazingly beautiful day. We definitely were not let down. We arrived a few days before the big day, and on our first day there…I got sick. No fun. It probably is the first time I have been sick in an entire year, and of course…it had to happen then. But, when things like that come up, you just have to press through and keep going. What we do is way too important to let a fever slow us down. One awesome thing is that whenever I shoot a wedding up there, my dear friend Keri comes along to shoot with us. That is one wonderful bonus for us, because she brings such joy and fun to the day.
The weather was perfect the first two days we were there, but on day three…wedding day….rain, rain, rain. We have shot in the rain almost more than decent weather this year, so it was not a huge concern as long as it did not start totally pouring. On the day of, it misted and spit rain here and there all day, but thankfully, no down pours. I have to say, Brittany was an AMAZING trooper all day. Her dress got wet and a little dirty, but she just pressed on through and always had a smile on her face. That’s my kind of bride. For that matter, everyone was just awesome. Geoff and the bridal party had such wonderful attitudes despite the wet, and it’s people like that which help make this job a pure joy. A few of the highlights of the day included stopping by McDonald’s after the ceremony (Britt and Geoff’s fav restaurant), Geoff carrying Brittany here and there because of the wet grass, and the Scottish claymore cake-cutting. Epic.
The day was full of love, tears, laughter, excitement, endearment, and all the other things that make life so precious. Such wonderful people are rarely found in such quantities as they are there, and we are so very blessed to be a small part of it. God bless you, Geoff and Brittany!
