Don’t you just love destination weddings??? I know that we sure do! ESPECIALLY when they are in nice, sunny locations. Shannon and I had an awesome destination wedding in Destin, Florida a few months back. Kelly and Mike are from St. Louis, and we were able to work out the details for us to photograph their wedding for them. We drove down for this one because we wanted to stop half-way in Nashville to visit with Shannon’s mother, and since it was not too far south in Florida we thought that driving would be fun. It was certainly fun, and it was certainly looong! We had a nice time, though…Chick-fil-A was our dear friend on the way there and back.
This wedding was not a beach wedding, though…it was a boat wedding. They had rented a big yacht, and the wedding and reception took place through the entire boat. We were worried about rain, and it actually started to rain just as we left to drive to the hotel to start shooting. But, after that brief spell there was no more rain to be had! It was such fun. Most of the guys in the party began the party well before the wedding had even started ;-), and everyone was just awesome to be around. One of the great things with destination weddings is that most of the people who make the trip are either family or very close friends. So, you tend to have a very personal and intimate feel with all who are there. This definitely was the case…everyone was like family. There was such warmth and love in everyone there that it was a joy every single moment. That is one thing of which I will never grow tired…being a stranger with a huge camera at the start of the day and transforming into part of the gang by the end. I love it.
I will say, though, that my favorite part of the day was the fireworks display. Just look at the photographs…there is no other way to describe how awesome it was.
It was a very memorable experience for us, and I know it was the most memorable for Kelly and Michael. Congrats to you both! (again) Here is an extended photo gallery to let you have a peak at their day.
