Weddings are memorable for us for lots of different reasons, because we are at so many those reasons are often different from the average wedding guest. For instance if you attended Nicole & Jon’s wedding, you may remember it for how hot it was or for how beautiful Little Piney was, or hopefully mostly how beautiful it was to see the bride & groom begin their new life together. I agree with all those things – they were all true, and why we love photographing weddings so much. However, occasionally something so unexpected will happen that it just marks itself into our memory for a particular wedding. Just such a thing happened at Nicole & Jon’s wedding.
Since the wedding was taking place outside of Hermann, MO at the gorgeous Little Piney Lodge (fabulous wedding venue!) they had hired a transportation company to bring guests too and from their nearby hotels. First off, they were late on their first run and missed picking up at one of the hotels. Ok, stuff happens. They drop the guests off and ask for the remainder of their payment. The father of the bride tells them that his checkbook is on the other side of the property (which is fairly extensive) and that he’ll have it for them when they come back, if they can just go make the second trip – seeing as how they are late and missed one of the hotels. Perfectly reasonable, right? I think so. But no, the transportation demands payment now, and when he again asks them to make the second run so the guests can get to the ceremony on time, they leave. As in leave and don’t come back.
It was shocking. We’ve never seen a vendor just walk out on a wedding day like that. So that was memorable – sadly in a bad way. However, in the wake of impending disaster (thank goodness for family with a large van that took over!), Little Piney really stepped up and did everything they could to make up for the situation.
Because of the now transportation breakdown, the ceremony started about an hour late. So the amazing staff at Little Piney graciously extended the reception for Nicole and Jon, so they wouldn’t miss out on that too. And that was also very memorable – in a GREAT way! Being small business owners ourselves, we really try to go above and beyond for our clients, and we love when we see other small businesses we work with do the same. This wasn’t our first time working with Little Piney, so we already knew of their awesomeness, however this just took it a step further. That is what you want when you are looking for who to hire for your wedding – people and businesses with amazing ethics who love their clients and serve them in any way they can. It makes even a not-perfect day, truly amazing!
