I (Joel) met Ryan for the first time when he was around 15 or so. He was friends with the younger brother of one of my friends, so I would see him around and about now and again. I did not know him well at the time, but over the course of the next few years, we got to know each other more. Fast forward a few years and he was needing a place to stay. I already had one roommate in the house, and the third bedroom is very small. But, he seemed excited about it, so he moved in. I cannot remember exactly how long he stayed with me, but it was not probably more than 6 months. In that time, he was show how cold a person can keep a house during winter without the pipes freezing. This was probably 5 or 6 ago now, and at the time, money was a bit scarce in my pockets. So, I kept the heat turned down pretty low…you can say it was a “character building” experience. 🙂
Over the time, though, I learned how amazing a young man Ryan was. He was so full of live and joy, and it was infectious. Even though he had not had the most easy life in the time leading up to then, he always approached things with such enthusiasm and hope. After a while, he decided to go back to school to pursue a life of ministry, and while it was sad to see him go, I was very excited for him. We did not see each other much over the next few years, but there was one important night where we did see each other. I was hosting some concerts at my building, and there was a young lady there who organized a fund raiser show to help her make a missionary trip to Africa. Her name was Lindsay. They met, and they seemed to hit it off right away. Fast forward a few years, and they are married now.
We are so excited for you both, and so honored to call you friends. We love you, and to was a joy to be with you. God bless you and your future family!
