It’s probably part of getting older and having been in the wedding industry for a while now, but more and more often we find ourselves working with couples who waited a bit longer to get married. Less often, though, we get to work with a couple who are actually our own age. When we do, though, it adds something special to the day. Yes, they do tend to understand my (Joel’s) stupid jokes and 80’s/90’s references more often…which may or may not be a benefit to them, to be fair. But, the main thing that really hits is that you know that the couple has had a long road to get to that day. There are any number of stories and reasons why the road was long…some easy and some less so. Regardless, it brings a special depth and sincerity to the day that quickly becomes all encompassing to everything that happens in the day. This was one of those days.
There is so much that I could talk about with their wedding day that it’s hard to know where to start. At one of our very favorite wedding venues, Little Piney Lodge? (Yes) Amazing family and friends who were very welcoming and very entertaining? (Indeed) Some of the best speeches given at the reception? (Without a doubt). As with all weddings, though, it’s the couple themselves who set the tone for a wedding day, and when you have incredible people like Susan and Kyle are, the rest just falls into place.
We loved getting to know these two more and hearing more of their stories, which made other parts of the day even more incredible to see. The reality is that we are usually walking into the middle of a story that has been going on for quite a while and trying to fit in and capture it the best we can, but often times we still feel like we are on the outside looking in. But at their wedding? There was no outside. They made everyone feel a part of it, and we could not help but be swept up right into their story and celebrate what in incredible day it was for two very special people and the wonderful others in their lives.
Susan and Kyle…thank you so much for trusting us to be a part of your day. And, we are definitely going to take you up on your offer to give us a proper tour of Hermann!
